This post is dedicated to João Almeida Colnago Y1RS bike size 2025. The Portuguese climber João Almeida has been riding for UAE Team Emirates since 2022, with a contract running through the end of 2026.

His 2025 season has been remarkable despite a setback at the Tour de France, where he abandoned on Stage 9 after fracturing ribs in a crash. Before that, Almeida claimed three General Classification victories in a row: Itzulia Basque Country, Tour de Romandie, and Tour de Suisse.

Almeida is set to finish second overall in the 2025 Vuelta a España, barring any incidents on the final stage.

Almeida’s consistency also makes him a popular pick in cycling games. See my Vuelta a España 2025 Fantasy Guide for rider tips.

Interestingly, those three wins were on the Colnago V5Rs, while the switch to the new Colnago Y1RS came at the Tour de France 2025. From mid-season onward, UAE Emirates riders have been racing predominantly on the aero-focused Y1RS, with Tadej Pogačar winning the 2025 Tour aboard it. Almeida also proved the bike’s versatility by conquering the brutal l’Angliru stage at the Vuelta a España 2025.

For more context, see my earlier breakdowns of João Almeida’s 2022 Colnago V3Rs bike size and his 2023 Colnago V4Rs bike setup.

Colnago Y1RS Size for João Almeida

  • Rider height: 1m78
  • Frame size: Colnago Y1RS Size M (equivalent to 54 cm / 540 mm stack)

Compared to his previous V4Rs size 485, the Y1RS geometry is subtly different, requiring careful adjustment by the team fitters.

Geometry differences (Y1RS vs V4Rs):

  • Head tube angle: 73° (vs 71.5°)
  • Seat tube angle: 74° (vs 74.5°)
  • Reach: 386 mm (vs 385 mm)
  • Head tube length: 126.5 mm (vs 130 mm)
  • Fork rake: 45 mm (vs 43 mm)
  • Wheelbase: longer, giving the Y1RS more stability on fast, rolling terrain

Colnago states the Y1RS is 3.5% stiffer than the V4Rs, translating into more efficient power transfer at the cost of slightly reduced comfort. In WorldTour racing, those small percentage gains“marginal gains” are often decisive.

For comparison, check Tadej Pogačar’s M size Colnago Y1RS 2025 build.

Final Thoughts

The Colnago Y1RS has become UAE Team Emirates’ go-to machine in 2025. For João Almeida, the move from the V5Rs to the Y1RS hasn’t slowed him down. He’s proven its speed in stage races and its climbing ability on one of cycling’s toughest climbs, l’Angliru.

Built around precision fit and small technical details, Almeida’s setup reflects the constant fine-tuning that defines WorldTour racing.
