What is Kenny Elissonde’s Trek Emonda SLR Bike Size 2022?

Kenny measures 1m69 and races on the Trek Emonda SLR size 50cm.

On its website Trek recommends size 50cm Emonda SLR to riders from 1m58 to 1m63 and an inseam between 74 and 77cm.
If you are 1m69 and you are looking for a Trek Emonda SLR bike, make sure to test ride different sizes to get a personal fit. As many variants applies when selecting a frame size.
By the way, Trek recommends the size 54cm for cyclist measuring between 1m68 and 1m74.

That’s two sizes up to what Kenny Elissonde picked up.

Kenny’s bike fitting reflects his best position for climbing.

On his 50cm Emonda SLR he uses a 80mm stem and a 380mm handlebar width.

His Bontrager saddle is set at 665mm from the Bottom Bracket center.

Distance from middle of the saddle to center of handlebar is 635mm (500mm from tip of the saddle to the handlebar center). Seat post is 20mm offset and the saddle is set with 16mm setback.
Elissonde uses 170mm Sram AXS crank length with Shimano Dura Ace SPD-SL pedals.

What is unique to Elissonde’s bike fit?

I could not find any unique feature in Elissonde’s bike fit except the short 80mm stem.

Most pro riders fit a longer stem on the small size frames to compensate the shorter Top Tube.

Because Elissonde is racing on a frame two sizes smaller than recommended by Trek. I find it an interesting choice to go with a short stem. But again, bike fitting is personal and he looks very well fitted on his bike as seen on the Stage 17 of the 2021 Tour de France linked here.

For the Tour de France 2021, Trek supplied the mens of Team Trek Segafredo with Ruby Chroma (Red) frames and Sapphire Chroma (blue) for the women team.

Kenny’s bike fitting reflects his best position for climbing. It works well when considering at his 2nd position on the mountain stage 11 of Tour de France 2021.

I really like how well balanced he is on his bike despite the fact it is a smaller frame than commercially recommended.

Among the Team Trek Segafredo 2021 two other climbers are almost as tall as Elissonde (1m69); Gianluca Brambila (1m70) and Juan Pedro Lopez (1m70). It is usually strategic to put similar sized riders and bikes together to ensure quick bike change if needed. It will be interesting to see them racing together.
