Nico Denz’s 2022 Bike Size

This post focus on Nico Denz’s 2022 Bike Size as he races with the team DSM.
Nico Denz will be racing with Team Bora-hansgrohe from 2023 with a two years contract.
So, I thought to review Denz’s current bike size for the record and observe which size he will be riding next year.

Scott Bicycles is the bike sponsor of the team DSM.
Scott released the 2023 model Scott Foil RC bike in July 2022 on the Tour de France.

It will be interesting to see the difference in setup between his Scott Foil RC model and his Specialized S-Works Tarmac SL7.

Denz is between 54 and 56

Nico Denz is 1m83 tall and rides the Scott Foil RC size 54 (M).

On its website, Scott recommends the size 54 to riders measuring 1m70 to 1m80.
It is usual to observe professional riders selecting one size smaller than the manufacturer-recommended size.

When I asked Nico about his current bike size, he responded that he is always between sizes 54 and 56 depending on the manufacturers.
He is on the size 54 Scott Foil RC 2023 model.

Nico Denz is an all-rounder type of rider with great climbing abilities leading him to win mountain stages like on stage 6 on the Tour de Suisse 2022.

He ended 39th in the Giro d’Italia 2022 mountain classification. This expresses well the fact he is a great climber, not a pure climber.

You might be interested in Nico Denz’s team leader, Romain Bardet as he is 1m84 and rides the Scott Foil RC size 54 too.
My review of Romain Bardet’s 2023 Bike size is linked here.

The Foil RC’s fit

The saddle is set at 763mm in height. As you know this is measured from the center of the bottom bracket (BB) to the top of the saddle.

I am still missing a few critical dimensions such as the saddle setback, the distance from the front of the saddle to the handlebar reach, and the stem length.
Nico confirmed he uses the 172.5mm crank arms.

So, for now, that’s what I know about Nico’s bike size and fit on the Scott Foil RC, and will update the page with further information from Nico Denz himself.

Regarding Denz’s bike setup, all is good as per the “manual”. I refer to the brake levers which are in line with the handlebar’s drops (see it on Getty Image), unlike the youngsters in the peloton.

Full Shimano Setup

The team DSM bikes are equipped with Shimano Dura-Ace Di2 12-speeds, disc brake types groupset, including the Shimano wheels and the Shimano SPD-SL pedals.

The tires are the Vittoria Corsa tubulars and tubeless depending on the race profile. Typically, tubeless is used on flat and fast-rolling hills races and tubular tires are used in mountain races.
The tire section is 26mm in width on road race events.

Nico Denz raced the 2022 season with the Shimano S-Phyre (RC-903) cycling shoes, in white color like most of the pro peloton. With yellow Shimano cleats (SM-SH11) which you can get here.

How Much?

Nico Denz’s 2023 Scott Foil RC bike cost approximately US$ 15,000.

Nico Denz’s 2022 Bike Size post is a developing story. I’ll update it as soon as more material information becomes available.
