Richard Carapaz’s 2022 bike size

This post is about Richard Carapaz’s 2022 bike size as seen on the Giro d’Italia and La Vuelta a Espana 2022.
The pro rider from Ecuador is racing with the team Ineos Grenadiers, which he joined in the season 2020.

Carapaz was racing for Movistar on Canyon bikes equipped with Campagnolo groupset before joining Ineos Team.

As Pinarello is the bike sponsor of team Ineos Grenadiers, Gutsy Carapaz is now racing on the Pinarello Dogma F in custom color.

Richard’s Bike Marginal Gains

Richard Carapaz is racing on an all-black color Pinarello Dogma F with all the lettering in gold color to celebrate his Olympic Gold medal at Tokyo 2020 Road Race.
The black color is the carbon frame color. The frame is only covered with clear to protect the carbon fiber.
According to SPT (aka Silverstone Paint Technology), this technic saves almost 400gr. I am not sure if this is accurate but it does sound like an added marginal gain for which strategy the team Ineos is so famous for.

Carapaz’s 2022 Bike Size

Now let’s dive into the bike size and fit.
Richard Carapaz is 1m70 and weighs 62kg at his top racing form.
He is considered a “Climber” type of cyclist, this can be observed on the bike in a less aggressive position than a sprinter.
Aggressive position means a big difference in height between the top of the saddle and the top of the handlebar.

Carapaz is racing on the Pinarello size 50cm Dogma F frame.
His saddle height is set at 706mm, measured from the center of the bottom bracket to the top of the saddle.
His Fizik Antares saddle is set at 525mm from the tip of the saddle to the center of the handlebar clamp area.
The MOST seat post has a 25mm setback, and the saddle’s position is with a 56.5mm setback.
The MOST stem is 100mm long. It is a one-piece Bar/Stem combo from Pinarello’s components brand.

Stock Shimano

Richard’s bike is fully equipped with Shimano Dura-Ace Di2 12 speed, disc brake type groupset. His crank-arms length is 170mm.
Ineos Grenadier is the only team among the UCI World Tour to use Shimano Dura-Ace in its stock version. No usage of Ceramic bearings on the Ineos team bikes, only steel bearings.
Shimano claims it is more efficient at transferring power compared with Ceramic bearings.
I should develop this subject in a separate post.

On the Giro 2022, Carapaz’s Dogma F was equipped with the new Shimano Dura-Ace C36 tubular wheels fitted with Continental Grand Prix tires in 25 sections.

No gloves

Richard Carapaz races with Sidi cycling shoes, Kask helmet, Oakley sunglasses, Bioracer jersey, and bibs. He is mostly racing without gloves on mountain stages.

Carapaz’s Pinarello Dogma F bike cost is estimated at US$ 16,000 in 2022.
